Humanitas
is UVA’s Undergraduate Journal of Human Rights. Humanitas is a Latin term that translates to “humanity,” and it represents values of compassion and kindness toward others. Our name embodies our mission to build lifelong researchers and advocates for human rights. We are a student-run, bi-annual publication, looking to foster the mutual exchange of ideas, research, and advocacy between students who are passionate about human rights. Our members strive to bring pressing human rights dialogues to the attention of the wider university community, and investigate how UVA students can amplify calls for humane treatment of all persons around the world.
In preparation for our Inaugural Publication, our members are hard at work in their research, advocacy, and publicity efforts. Our writers engage in interdisciplinary planning, research, and synthesis to produce their articles, combining journalistic, historical, legal, and philosophical analyses. Our editors collaborate with writers to help them produce an article that is at once engaging, respectful, and accurate. Our advocacy and publicity committees seek to supplement our publication by organizing meetings, events, and fundraisers designed to encourage dialogue surrounding pressing human rights issues.
Our mission is to give UVA students all over grounds the opportunity to get involved in the global fight for human rights.
