Humanitas
is UVA’s Undergraduate Journal for Human Rights. Humanitas is a Latin term that translates to “humanity,” and stands for compassion and kindness toward others. Our name embodies our mission to help UVA students identify and combat instances where principles of shared humanity go violated or unrecognized. We are a bi-annual publication seeking to educate the university community on ongoing human rights abuses, the history of human rights, and how students at UVA can engage in human rights advocacy.
In preparation for our Inaugural Publication, during the Spring 2025 semester our members will be hard at work in their research, advocacy, and publicity efforts. Our writers engage in interdisciplinary practices to produce their articles, combining journalistic, historical, legal, and philosophical analysis. Our editors collaborate with writers to help them engage in meaningful human rights research and awareness-raising. Our advocacy and publicity committees seek to further engage with the UVA community by organizing meetings, events, fundraisers related to human rights.
Overall, our mission is to give UVA students all over grounds the opportunity to get involved in the global fight for human rights.
